Discover the Key Principles for Leading WELL

Adopting a learner's mindset, mastering essential skills, and knowing how and when to reset—this is what Leading WELL is all about.

WELL Leaders remove the roadblocks and operationalise the enablers. They embody consistency, reliability, respect, and inclusivity. Here are the key principles:

  • Set clear expectations: Frame the work, be clear on the expectations, and delegate responsibility for meeting them. No clear expectations mean no deliverables.
  • Communicate in perspective: Seek perspectives as you communicate to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Question constructively: Question the work, never the worker.
  • Align to intention: Be intentional with your actions and stay connected to your values, vision and purpose.
  • Learn from failure: Fail fast and fail often. Own your failures, fix them, and share the learning.
  • Value practicality: If technology can do the work faster, more efficiently and dependably, then use it.
  • Be adaptable: Know the difference between what must be fixed and what is negotiable.
  • Expect the unexpected: Do things you haven’t done before, and don’t be surprised when surprises occur.
  • Care and be kind: Show you care, and treat everyone in your span of care with kindness.
  • Embrace synergetic virtues: Be confident enough in your capabilities to show humility in your curiosity.

By adhering to these principles, WELL Leaders create environments where people flourish, ensuring that both leaders and their teams achieve their natural best. Leading WELL is challenging, but the effort is immensely rewarding.
